WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $275,000 in grant funding to Friends of Southwest Virginia in Abingdon, Virginia to promote and support tourism, outdoor recreation and entrepreneurial activities in Southwest Virginia. Today’s funding was competitively awarded through the EDA’s Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative.
“Tourism and outdoor recreation will continue to play a significant role in diversifying the economy of Southwest Virginia. These grants will promote innovative initiatives I was pleased to launch as Governor and encourage job creation and tourist spending by highlighting the region’s unique natural resources and cultural heritage,” Sen. Warner said.
“Today’s funding will bolster local economic development activities throughout Southwest Virginia,” Sen. Kaine said. “By supporting small businesses and giving them the tools they need to be successful, we can help spur entrepreneurialism and job creation across the Commonwealth.”
