Warner & Kaine Statement On Senate Confirmation Of Novak For Eastern District Court Of Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine released the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed U.S. Magistrate Judge David J. Novak to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division:

“We’re pleased that the Senate voted to confirm Judge Novak for the Eastern District Court of Virginia. His experience prosecuting national security matters at the federal level and his service as a magistrate judge have proven he is prepared for the complex cases that will come across his docket. Judge Novak’s distinguished record and praise from the Virginia legal community give us confidence he will serve effectively in this role.”

In September 2018, Warner and Kaine sent a letter to President Trump recommending Judge Novak for the vacancy, and the President nominated him in March. Mr. Novak has served as U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District since 2012. He was previously nominated to fill a seat in the Richmond Division during the 110th Congress, but his nomination expired before Congress could confirm him.
