Sens. Warner, Kaine Announce Nearly $2 Million in Federal Funds for Improvements at Three Virginia Airports

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) announced today that airports in Petersburg/Dinwiddie, Front Royal/Warren and Culpeper will receive nearly $2 million in funds from the Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to rehabilitate pavement conditions and improve the safety of their facilities.

“This funding will help ensure Virginia airports can meet their increasing infrastructure demands while providing modern facilities for flyers and employees,” said Sen. Warner. “Through these grants, our airports will be able to maintain proper safety standards while delivering the quality service their passengers have come to expect.”

Projects and amounts are listed below:

  • Dinwiddie County Airport and Industrial Authority - $1,002,045. This grant will fund milling and overlay to rehabilitate 9,300 square yards of the existing apron pavement and 650 feet of the existing Taxiway D pavement that have reached the end of their useful lives. This is phase 2 of a 2 phase project.
  • Front Royal-Warren County Airport - $618,054. This project will fund the removal of tree obstructions in the Runway 10/28 transitional surfaces. This is phase 6 of a 6 phase project.
  • Culpeper Regional Airport - $124,784. This project will fund the design for the rehabilitation of 5,000 feet of the existing T-hangar taxi-lane pavement that has reached the end of its useful life.

Earlier this week, Sens. Warner and Kaine also announced more than $12 million in federal funding to airports in Richmond ($4,002,106), Norfolk ($6,212,500), and Emporia/Greensville ($1,430,809).
