WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Johnny Isakson (R-GA), each members of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Africa Subcommittee, released the following statement after Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Madagascar.
“As members of the Senate Foreign Relations’ Africa Subcommittee, we stand with the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Madagascar who are facing the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai.
“We express our grief for those who have died. Our deepest sympathies are with the thousands displaced by this tropical storm, which by some estimates is the worst disaster to ever hit the southern hemisphere.
“We will work with the Administration, the United Nations, and our international partners to support immediate rescue operations and response efforts in the region to help affected communities recover.”
