Recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month, Kaine Commemorates Contributions Of Latino Community
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement on the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month:
“The Latino community’s contributions to our country date back 450 years to the founding of the oldest continuously-occupied European settlement at St. Augustine. Over that period of time, Latino Americans have become an integral part of our nation’s fabric. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month comes at an exciting time, as the United States receives King Felipe VI of Spain and Pope Francis, the Catholic Church’s first Latin American Pope, who has taught leaders across the globe the importance of humility. The Pope’s recent messages about building strong societies through inclusivity is something the United States has adopted by recognizing and encouraging the contributions of Latinos to our nation.”
Kaine cosponsored two related resolutions this week – one designating the week of September 14th – September 20th as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week and another recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrating the heritage, culture and contributions of Latinos to the United States.

KAINE CELEBRA LAS CONTRIBUCIONES DE LA COMUNIDAD HISPANA AL CONMEMORAR EL MES DE LA HERENCIA HISPANA
WASHINGTON, D.C. – El Senador Tim Kaine hoy hizo las siguientes declaraciones en el primer día del Mes de la Herencia Hispana:
“Las contribuciones de comunidad hispana tienen sus inicios en San Agustín, el asentamiento europeo más antiguo habitado permanentemente, hace 450 años. Desde entonces, los hispanos se han convertido en parte integral del tejido de nuestra nación. Este año, el Mes de la Herencia Hispana se celebra durante un momento especial, ya que estamos recibiendo al Rey Felipe VI de España y al Papa Francisco, el primer papa latinoamericano, quien ha demostrado a los líderes del mundo la importancia de la humildad. Los recientes mensajes del Papa sobre cómo construir sociedades fuertes mediante la inclusión es algo que los Estados Unidos ha adoptado al reconocer y fomentar las contribuciones de los latinos a nuestra nación”.
Kaine copatrocinó dos resoluciones esta semana – una para designar la semana del 14 de septiembre al 20 de septiembre como la Semana de las Instituciones a Servicio de los Hispanos y otra para conmemorar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana y celebrar el patrimonio, la cultura y las contribuciones de los latinos a los Estados Unidos.
