Kaine Tours NASA Langley Research Center In Hampton

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine continued his two-week tour of Virginia in Hampton with a visit to the NASA Langley Research Center. Throughout the tour, Kaine discussed the importance of NASA Langley’s role in growing and diversifying the regional economy and attracting talented workers.

"NASA is a great player in Virginia and Langley is a fantastic center for aeronautical and aviation related research," said Kaine. "With wonderful private sector partners here too, this is a growing and important part of Virginia's economy."

During the tour, Kaine learned about  Doppler Wind Lidar technology, which generates 3-D wind energy maps used to understand the economic impact of the placement of turbines and wind farms. Highlighting this project and others, Kaine spoke about the need to preserve funding that allows NASA Langley to conduct cutting-edge research.

"I wanted to come to NASA Langley to get a sense of the research that's underway now, especially as Virginia's aerospace and aviation industries are growing,” said Kaine. “I also learned about challenges they have in the current budget environment."

Tomorrow, Kaine will continue his two-week tour of the Commonwealth in Richmond.
