WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, issued the following statement after the Trump Administration backed a federal judge’s ruling that the entire Affordable Care Act should be eliminated:
“The Trump Administration has long wanted to eliminate the entire Affordable Care Act, which would take health care away from millions of people and threaten protections for those with pre-existing conditions. Now they have backed a court ruling that would do just that. This would be devastating for so many Americans – including Virginians who’ve had cancer, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, or a whole host of other medical conditions, and would have to go back to the days of being charged more or denied coverage altogether because of their medical history. I'll keep standing up against the Trump Administration's attempts to take health care away, and I'll push for Congress to take action that provides more affordable insurance options to families in Virginia and across the country."
Kaine has been a leader in efforts to protect the Affordable Care Act and improve the health care system to give all Americans access to quality health care they can afford. He has introduced a resolution that would authorize the Senate Counsel to defend the ACA and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including 1.3 million Virginians. Kaine has introduced Medicare-X to provide low-cost, high-quality health care in every zip code.
