Kaine Statement on the Hesston, Kansas Shooting

RICHMOND, VA - U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the follwoing statement today:

“The shooting yesterday in Hesston, Kansas underscores the need to take seriously this epidemic of gun violence. That’s why I support legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of individuals subject to a restraining order. It also emphasizes why Congress needs to support the President’s executive actions to combat gun violence with sufficient funding to strengthen background checks and provide the resources to enforce gun laws, increase mental health treatment, and improve reporting to the background check system. Coupled with the violence last weekend in Kalamazoo, Michigan, these tragedies remind us that gun violence does not discriminate and remains an everyday threat to the safety of our communities. I urge my colleagues to swiftly address this issue with reasonable policy proposals.”
