WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee and Arizona Republican Party v. Democratic National Committee:
“Today’s decision demonstrates that the Supreme Court, which vigorously embraced protecting voting rights only in the last 60 years, can no longer be counted upon to preserve the right fundamental to all other rights. This raises the sense of urgency for Congress to pass comprehensive voting rights legislation.”
Last month, Kaine, a former civil rights attorney, decried Senate Republicans’ filibuster of a bill to expand access to the ballot box.
