WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern, Southern and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement:
“I am deeply troubled by the news that the Syrian regime is not meeting its international obligations to dismantle its chemical weapons program. Bashar al Assad should know that backsliding on his commitment to dismantle his entire illicit chemical weapons program is intolerable and will be met with consequences. The international community must remain vigilant to hasten the dismantling of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile. And as Assad continues to slaughter his own people with conventional weapons and deny large portions of his population food, water, and medicine, we must do more to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.”
