Kaine Statement On Situation In Afrin

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, released the following statement on recent reports that Afrin, Syria was evacuated following a Turkish military-led operation:

“I am deeply concerned over recent reports that the majority of the population in Afrin was evacuated under attack from a Turkish military-led operation.  This adds to the already concerning humanitarian situation in Syria, as hundreds of thousands of newly displaced persons now require immediate shelter and assistance. We remain committed to working with Turkey, our NATO ally, to address its legitimate security concerns, but I believe all parties in Syria must focus first on protecting civilians and de-escalating this horrific war.”
