WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs released the following statement on renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks:
“I commend Secretary Kerry's steadfast commitment to working with both the Israelis and Palestinians since assuming his position as Secretary of State. The resumption of direct negotiations is a promising step forward, though much work remains to be done. I also commend both Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas for their leadership -- they will both have to make tough, but necessary, choices for peace. I have long been a supporter of direct talks between the Israelis and Palestinians with the goal of achieving two states, living side by side in peace and security.”
