WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) protections—which Kaine called for—to assist Palestinians living in the United States. DED offers temporary protections to eligible foreign nationals already in the United States who are unable to return safely to their home country or territory due to extraordinary circumstances such as armed conflict.
“I’m pleased the Administration heeded our call to offer temporary protections to Palestinians in the United States so they aren’t forced to return to the West Bank or Gaza strip amid an ongoing war. I’ll continue working to provide humanitarian aid for civilians impacted by this conflict and to deescalate tensions in the Middle East.”
