Kaine Statement on President Obama, Reps. Rigell and Scott's Visit to Newport News

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today in response to the visit by President Barack Obama, U.S. Representative Scott Rigell (R-VA) and U.S. Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) to Newport News Shipbuilding:

“I’m pleased President Obama and Representatives Rigell and Scott visited Newport News Shipbuilding today in Virginia to help give voice to the thousands of workers who stand to be affected by sequester cuts and continued budget uncertainty. I’m also encouraged by the calls made there today – by both legislators – for a balanced approach to solving this self-inflicted crisis. My own visit with shipyard workers there last week clearly illustrated the serious threat posed by impending sequester cuts and the expiration of the continuing resolution.”
