WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement tonight after the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution to secure and destroy Syria’s chemical weapons.
“The United Nations Security Council resolution passed tonight that legally binds Syria to eliminate its chemical weapons stockpile is a tremendous step forward. I'm proud that America's resolve to punish Syria's use of chemical weapons helped to create the conditions for this diplomatic breakthrough.
"Ultimately, Syria’s commitment to the process will be judged by the regime’s actions over the coming weeks – and the world will be watching. The United States, in partnership with the international community, must continue to do everything we can to work towards an end to this brutal civil war and a lasting political solution for Syria.”
