WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the report released today by the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission (MCRMC):
“After two years of hard work, the Commission has released a comprehensive set of proposals that lawmakers must consider as we examine our national security strategy, the defense budget, and commitments we have made to our servicemembers. Last spring, I led efforts to direct the Commission to survey servicemembers on their preferences on pay and benefits, and I am pleased that the Commission followed this recommendation to ensure servicemembers’ opinions on compensation were considered throughout this process. I look forward to reviewing these proposals in detail in the coming days and hearing testimony from the Commission during Tuesday’s Armed Services Committee hearing.”
Last year, Kaine and U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R–TX) introduced legislation and an amendment that was adopted into the FY2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which directed the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission to survey servicemembers on their compensation preferences.
