Kaine Statement on Medal of Honor Recipient Navy SEAL Edward Byers Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, released the following statement today:

“Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Edward C. Byers Jr. demonstrated immeasurable courage, bravery and service to his country in Afghanistan. The Medal of Honor is our nation’s highest military award, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Byers’ actions to protect his fellow SEALs in the face of grave danger was heroic and truly above and beyond the call of duty. On behalf of the Commonwealth, I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to Officer Byers on his historic award. Our nation is extremely fortunate to have him among our ranks.”
