Kaine Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

JERUSALEM – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

“Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honor his legacy of non-violent social change and justice. Dr. King’s tireless work for the rights of his fellow citizens still inspires Americans to strive to better themselves, as well as their communities. Dr. King spent his life reaching across the old lines of division to find common ground and advance the causes of equality and justice. He knew that change does not come easily, but a just cause is always worth fighting for. Dr. King’s courage and sacrifice have earned him a place as a symbol for peace, tolerance and justice in America and across the globe.

“There are no shortage of challenges in the world – from ongoing tensions between law enforcement and local communities in our own country, to recent attacks rooted in hatred and religious intolerance overseas. I join my fellow Americans today in honoring Dr. King’s legacy by working to address these challenges and promoting unity over intolerance and dialogue over violence.”
