WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement on the decision by Marilyn Tavenner, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), to step down:
“From serving as my Secretary of Health and Human Resources in Virginia during a recession, to overseeing health care services for millions of Americans following the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, Marilyn has been an exceptional leader whose experience as a nurse and hospital administrator helped her navigate challenging circumstances and earn the respect of leaders on both sides of the aisle. Under her leadership, we have witnessed historic expansion of insurance for the American population, improvement in the quality of care in hospitals and a dramatic slowing of healthcare costs. I’m thankful for her many years of service to Virginia and the nation and wish her well in her next venture.”
