Kaine Statement On Heightened Tension And Violence Along Gaza-Israel Border

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, released the following statement on the heightened tension and violence along the Gaza-Israel border:

“I am deeply saddened by the cycle of violence and protests at the Gaza-Israel border. These events make clear the desperate need to alleviate this ongoing humanitarian crisis and actively pursue a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“The lack of power, clean water, adequate medical care and other necessities in Gaza not only exacerbates the hardships faced by its population, but benefits extremist groups like Hamas who use this deprivation and despair to incite violence against Israel.  With Gaza on the brink of economic collapse, the Trump Administration should urgently restore funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and work with Israel and Egypt to ease the blockade and reduce human suffering.”
