WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine—who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues—released the following statement regarding the upcoming Summit of the Americas, which will be held June 6-10:
“As host of the summit, the United States has an excellent opportunity to outline a clear vision for the hemisphere. There are serious challenges that affect every nation in the region and that require collective action, including recovery from the pandemic, economic inequality, drug trafficking, corruption, climate change, and irregular migration. Addressing these issues requires U.S. commitment and leadership in the region.”
Senator Kaine will be at the summit on Thursday evening, June 9 and Friday, June 10. Details regarding his activities and media availability will be shared next week.
