Kaine Calls For Answers From Trump On The Fate Of The Fate Of 2,300 Children Separated From Their Parents

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement today:

“Yesterday, President Trump signed his Executive Order and said ‘we do want to keep families together,’ but it’s becoming clear he wasn’t talking about the 2,300 children who have already been taken away from their parents by his cruel policy. We're left with more questions than answers: What is the fate of the 2,300 children already separated from their families? How will the Administration assure that these children are promptly and safely returned to their parents? When? Where are these children being held? In what conditions? What care are they receiving? Are they getting health screenings and resources to cope with the trauma of being taken from their parents?

“The Trump Administration needs to provide full transparency about the well-being of every single child, starting by giving Members of Congress unrestricted access to all the detention centers and information about where these children are being held. We can't trust an Administration that cavalierly ripped apart families to act in the best interest of these kids. Congress needs to provide strict oversight to ensure vulnerable families are protected and every child is reunited with their parents.”
