WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement applauding today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that Scott County Telephone Cooperative (SCTC) will receive a $3,000,000 Community Connect Grant to establish a broadband network in Caney Ridge and the surrounding area in Dickenson County. Kaine wrote to the Rural Utilities Service in August urging USDA to award SCTC the grant.
“This major investment in broadband development will improve daily life for families and businesses, create jobs and help spark economic prosperity in the region,” said Kaine. “During my visit to the Scott County Telephone Cooperative this summer, I spoke with SCTC employees and co-op members about their impressive work to improve the digital infrastructure of under-served communities across the region. I was proud to support this project to expand broadband to the Caney Ridge area, and I’m thrilled the USDA recognized its importance to economic development in Southwest Virginia.”
Kaine, who made investments in infrastructure a priority as Governor, traveled to Gate City in August to meet with Scott County Telephone Cooperative employees and board members.
