WASHINGTON, DC (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia’s junior U.S. Senator Tim Kaine has introduced legislation supporting survivors of sexual assault on college campuses. The Survivor Outreach and Support — or SOS — On Campus Act requires every college and university that received federal funds have an independent advocate dedication to campus sexual assault prevention and response. Kaine says students deserve to live and learn in healthy, safe environments. He notes the Association of Title IX Administrators estimates upwards of 90% of sexual misconduct cases are handled “informally” and without formal protections and guidance for student victims.
