Conference Honors 20th Anniversary of AmeriCorps

RICHMOND, Va (WVIR) - The White House along with U.S. Senator Tim Kaine honored the 20th anniversary of the Americorps service program Friday.

Kaine applauded the work of the volunteers, and spoke about the importance of putting others first during the annual Service and Volunteerism Conference in Richmond.

Thousands across the nation took the pledge, at the same time, to continue helping others.

"If you make your life about serving others, you'll always have something to do, and you'll always be happy and fulfilled,” said Kaine.

Kaine proudly shared that one of his sons recently joined the Americorps program.

Since the inception of Americorps, the 900,000 members contributed to nonprofits, schools, and community and faith-based agencies.
