Senator Tim Kaine visited the Framatome expansion on Mill Ridge Road in Lynchburg, where construction is underway to create over 500 new jobs, ranging from engineers to support staff.
"Virginia is right at the center of this and Lynchburg is the key location really for nuclear innovation going forward," said Kaine.
The senator's visit aimed to discuss federal policies, funding, and tax incentives that could accelerate nuclear energy development in the area.
"If you look for the increased power that we will need to power data centers or AI searches that we all want to do on our cell phones now, we are going to have a huge increase in power," Kaine said, emphasizing the importance of clean energy sources to meet future power demands.
When asked about his stance on nuclear energy, Kaine stated, "Yeah, I’m pro because look I’m a Virginian and we are producing 35 percent of power with nuclear energy."
Framatome plans to open the new facility in July.
