By launching a missile strike on Sumy on April 13 , the Russian Federation may have made a mistake. However, it was not an accident at all.
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine made the statement during a briefing. He responded to US President Donald Trump's statement regarding the attack.
"Donald Trump is right. It was a terrible mistake. But it was not an accident. The biggest mistake by Russia is that it should never have done this. Russia should not have attacked civilians on Palm Sunday," said Kaine.
The senator doesn't think the Russians can claim that the strike on the center of Sumy was just an accident. But they didn't.
"They claimed they did it intentionally for a reason that seems quite suspicious to me. If you look at the recent Russian attacks on civilians, they were happening on Sundays in cities where there are playgrounds, children's hospitals, people are going to church," Kaine noted.
The senator added that, in his opinion, the Russian army knew full well what it was doing when it struck Sumy.
"I don't think you can give them any benefit of the doubt that this was an accident. They know what they're doing, and it raises real questions about their integrity at a time when we should be discussing a ceasefire," the senator concluded.
Recall that on Monday, April 14, US Democratic Senator Tim Kaine arrived in Ukraine . The US Embassy informed about the visit of the American politician to the Ukrainian capital.
Recall that US President Donald Trump, who is promoting the idea of ??a ceasefire in the Russian war against Ukraine, called the Russian shelling of Sumy on April 13 a "terrible thing." The aggressor country killed 34 people with a double missile strike, and more than a hundred civilians were injured. The American leader said that "they made a mistake," but did not specify who he meant.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reacted to another Russian war crime , calling the strike a "tragic reminder" of why President Donald Trump is supposedly making "so many efforts to end the war and achieve a lasting peace."
