Just hours before President Trump’s joint address, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) discussed the president’s mass government layoffs. Accompanied by Jason King, a disabled veteran who was laid off from the Federal Aviation Administration, Kaine called Trump’s actions unconstitutional.
”People have served their country and gained special skills in serving their country that can benefit the country for decades,” Kaine said. “To wage a war on them and set a record in six weeks as the president who’s fired the most veterans in American history, that’s not something to be proud of.”
Kaine called the layoffs a “war on safety.” King, a Fairfax local still keeps in touch with his former colleagues at the FAA. He said the constant fear of layoffs has led to a decrease in productivity.
”Everybody is just so focused on whether they’re going to be there next week. They’re just trying to be prepared in this time of uncertainty. It’s really causing a poor work environment,” King said. “I think when you have those issues in a safety community, those are the last distractions you would want.”
Kaine brought King as his guest at the joint address.
